Dr. Thomas joined Nuvance Health, now part of Nuvance Health, in August 2013 as a general surgeon and educator. He is actively involved in the medical practice and performs general surgeries including minimally invasive robotic procedures. In addition to his role as a surgeon, Dr. Thomas is an active educator at Vassar Brothers Medical Center with third- and fourth-year medical students as well as nursing, physician assistant and surgical technician students.
Dr. Thomas is a member of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), the Christian Medical and Dental Associations (CMDA) and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). As a participant in medical missions, he has taken several trips to Africa, India, Central Asia, Indonesia and China.
Dr. Thomas graduated cum laude from the City University of New York with a Bachelor of Science. He earned his medical degree from Albany Medical College and completed a family medicine residency in Oklahoma, after which he worked for several years as a primary care physician/hospitalist in Herkimer, NY. Dr. Thomas then chose to pursue his surgical residency at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, NY, where he was Chief Resident prior to joining Nuvance Health. He is board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS).
