Our Anesthesiology Residency Program offers excellent clinical training, access to a diverse patient population and experience with significant comorbidities.

The Clinical Pastoral Education Residency offers a year-long, experiential program at Danbury Hospital that allows a CPE Chaplain Resident to complete three consecutive units of CPE through Danbury Hospital’s ACPE CPE Program.

The General Practice Residency (GPR) in Dentistry is a one-year clinical and didactic program sponsored by Danbury Hospital. The overall objective of the hospital-based residency program at Danbury Hospital is to produce general dentists with a high level of clinical competency that will allow them to care for patients who require an increased reliance on total patient evaluation, alongside their medical colleagues in the health care community.

Norwalk Hospital’s residency in Diagnostic Radiology provides a clinically intense but highly supportive environment for resident training, which is essential to our educational philosophy and approach to teaching. The program consists of 10 radiology residents, three alternating with two in each of the four years. The teaching faculty is composed of 14 fellowship-trained radiologists.

Our Emergency Medicine Residency Program will train residents to go beyond the didactic and experiential thirty-six month curriculum that comprises traditional emergency medicine residency training. We teach foundational principles of critical thinking and model timeless values and ideals that inform our graduates’ medical practice for the entirety of their careers in emergency medicine and throughout their lives.

Our primary training site, Northern Dutchess Hospital, provides a close-knit environment within the larger academic system at Nuvance Health. Nuvance Health prioritizes family medicine training at this site by offering unopposed clinical rotations such as inpatient medicine, outpatient pediatrics, and geriatrics. Residents will have access to the same educational resources as a large teaching institution while maintaining the principled role of a family medicine physician. We are excited to open our brand-new outpatient Family Medicine Practice with our community partners at Hudson River Healthcare. Our trainees will receive broad exposure to diverse patient populations and provide quality patient care to the entire Mid-Hudson Valley community.

The mission of the Internal Medicine program at Danbury Hospital is to provide our residents an outstanding educational experience to ensure that they are prepared to practice general internal medicine or to enter subspecialty fellowship training. This is done by educating them in the essentials of clinical medicine along with the necessary pathophysiology and basic science required of a knowledgeable and skillful physician. The residents are taught to deliver health services, regardless of a patients’ ability to pay, to a diverse patient population without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, or social status. The program requires and supports our residents’ role as teachers and educators in their interactions with their peers, students, ancillary medical professionals, and patients. In addition, the program supports the professional development of our residents allowing for personal growth and individualization of goals.

The goal of the Categorical Internal Medicine Residency is to train superior internists able to care for inpatients and outpatients across a wide disease spectrum. By graduation, all of our residents have participated in leadership and scholarly activities. Our program is the right size to provide breadth and depth of experience with personalized mentoring and feedback. The three major areas of clinical exposure are Team Care, Critical Care and Ambulatory Medicine at the Norwalk Community Health Center. These areas are also further described within the Learning Environment page. We have a high Internal Medicine Board passage rate, with our residents pursuing excellent fellowship and practice opportunities upon graduation from our program.

As an ACGME-accredited internal medicine residency program, our curriculum and clinical training experiences will prepare graduates to be not only independent practitioners or candidates for fellowship training, but also leaders in the field of medicine. The support of our highly qualified leadership, our well-equipped, state-of-the-art institutions, and our competent faculty and medical staff all form the foundation of a strong and vibrant program.

The Medical Physics Residency Program at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, established in 2009, offers a two-year training for therapeutic medical physicists and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP) (2012).

Our Neurololgy Residency Program teaching faculty is comprised of seasoned physicians with subspecialty training. Our goal is to provide residents with high quality training, resources and education to gain foundational knowledge in neurology and related specialties through a robust mix of acute and outpatient clinical experience.

Danbury Hospital’s Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) Department designed its training program to enable the graduating resident to assume the role of an OB/GYN Generalist as well as prepare them for an OB/GYN subspecialty if desired. The program is a four-year ACGME accredited residency with three categorical residents per year.

The residency program in anatomic and clinical pathology and laboratory medicine provides residents the opportunity to participate in patient care, teaching rounds, and conferences.

This twelve-month post-graduate program offers training to highly motivated, team-oriented pharmacy professionals on advanced patient care skills, distributive and administrative roles of pharmacy, and prepares residents to be leaders of change in the medical and academic community. Residents will have direct patient care experiences in a variety of settings throughout the year, allowing residents to gain confidence to effectively become integral members of an interdisciplinary health care team.

This twelve-month post-graduate program offers training to highly motivated, team-oriented pharmacy professionals on advanced patient care skills, distributive and administrative roles of pharmacy, and prepares residents to be leaders of change in the medical and academic community.

This 12-month post-graduate year one pharmacy residency training program offers residents the opportunity to gain expertise in various areas of pharmacy practice and to cultivate necessary skills to become a highly skilled pharmaceutical care practitioner. The program consists of core and elective learning experiences that are tailored to each resident’s interests. The residency will serve to foster clinical, distributive, and administrative skills in pharmacy practice.

This is a 12 month post-graduate training program aimed at cultivating and bringing forth highly skilled pharmaceutical care providers. Training is built in collaboration with the resident based on his/her interests combining required and elective learning experiences.

Our residency program offers diversity of training sites and patient population. The resident will have exposure to all the different areas of psychiatry including ECT, child and adolescent forensics, integrated care and telepsychiatry. Our faculty have different training backgrounds and expertise, all committed to provide the best teaching and supervision to prepare competent psychiatrists.

The General Surgery Residency at Danbury Hospital is now in its eleventh year since accreditation by the ACGME. We have graduated ten classes of Chief Residents and our prospects are very bright for the future. Our affiliation with the University of Vermont gives our residents access to clinical and research experiences beyond those of just Danbury Hospital, though we also recently finished a multi-million dollar research facility.

The Norwalk Hospital/Yale Physician Assistant (PA) Surgical Residency is an intensive 12-month program conducted jointly by the Departments of Surgery at Norwalk Hospital and Yale School of Medicine. As the first graduate residency in the nation designed exclusively for surgical PAs, the Norwalk/Yale program has maintained its reputation over the years through strong staff commitment, the high caliber of its students and a record of graduates’ successes all across the country.

Our Transitional Year residents work closely alongside residents in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Anesthesiology and Family Medicine programs. All residents complete standard core rotations in surgery, medicine and emergency medicine to develop broad medical knowledge and patient care skills.
