City Access, Rural Living

City and country are close together in the Hudson Valley. Hike and bike in every direction, on the miles and miles of rail trails, on the Walkway Over the Hudson, or enjoy some of the finest climbing in the Shawangunk Mountains, known to climbers as “The Gunks.” Sail, swim and canoe on the Hudson River, experience the character-filled towns and villages that dot the Catskill Mountains and explore spectacular wilderness areas.

A short hop outside of the cities and towns are magical country vistas, river views, farm cottages and lakeside living. Or you can have a city home and drive, bike, or bus it out to the country on the Dutchess County Public Transit. Because Poughkeepsie has excellent train service from Amtrak and Metro-North, you can make a daytime or overnight trip to New York City and catch a show and be back in 90 minutes. There are many who think the train ride from Grand Central to Poughkeepsie is one of the most beautiful in the world. We think you’ll love the Hudson Valley and Connecticut so much, you may be tempted to stay.

Located at the foot of the Berkshire Hills, Danbury offers countless outdoor activities. The natural hills and lakes formed within the valley of these hills make the city an ideal location for fishing, boating, swimming, whitewater rafting, hiking, rock climbing and skiing.

Other local attractions include local Connecticut and Vermont sugar houses to harvest and observe  maple syrup production. Frequently, maple sugarhouses also have farms and orchards connected to  them which allow for visitors to pick their own seasonal fruit. Local farmer’s markets in Danbury and  Ridgefield offer a variety of culinary delights, including local creamery offerings of goat, sheep and cow  cheeses. Organic produce, specialty items and fine cut butchery offerings are also available at weekend  markets.

Located just 25 miles from Danbury is Norwalk, CT. Norwalk is a coastal community at heart, with many  beaches, island parks, seaport activities and boating right on the Long Island Sound.

Norwalk is home to a variety of restaurants with waterfront views, rooftop seating and elegant courtyards.
