Q: Is the program accredited?
A: We are currently in the candidacy phase of accreditation through the American Society of Health System Pharmacist (ASHP).
Q: How many positions are there?
A: There are two PGY-1 pharmacy residency positions
Q: What is the stipend?
A: $60,000
Q: What is the term of the residency year?
A: For the 2026-27 residency year, residents begin on Monday, June 29, 2026, and finish on June 25, 2027.
Q: How is the resident’s schedule determined?
A: The resident’s schedule is built in discussion with the RPD and residency advisory committee. The finalized schedule is based on program requirements as well as the resident’s interests and goals.
Q: Will the residents participate in multi-disciplinary rounds?
A: Yes, you will participate in various multidisciplinary rounds such as ICU, internal medicine, and infectious diseases.
Q: Does Danbury Hospital support travel to conferences?
A: Yes, residents will be reimbursed for travel to ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and a regional residency conference. See more in the program benefits tab to see what is covered!
Q: When do residents need to be licensed by?
A: Residents are required to sit for both the NAPLEX and CT MPJE by July 15. However, we highly encourage our residents to sit for their exams prior to the start of the program in order to maximize the most of their residency experience as fully licensed practitioners.

Q: What elective learning experiences are available?
A: The residency program provides a variety of elective rotations that allow residents to tailor their training and expand their skill set. Available electives include Pharmacy Informatics, Medication Safety, Academic Leadership, and Primary Care Clinic. Additional elective experiences may be arranged depending on resident interests and preceptor availability.
Q: Do the residents have their own office?
A: Yes, residents have access to a dedicated, modern office space equipped with dual monitors and a pull-out recliner for added comfort. The office also offers a beautiful view. Photos of the space can be found under the “Program Benefits” section.
Q: Do residents have access to convenient parking in this hospital?
A: Yes, residents have access to free parking in the Krebs Garage, which is conveniently located next to both Central Pharmacy and the outpatient pharmacy, Walgreens. The garage also connects directly to the main hospital, making for an easy and quick walk to your rotation sites. On the way in, you’ll pass Praxair Café – perfect for grabbing a coffee before starting your day.
Q: What are the staffing responsibilities?
A: Staffing requirements for residents include every third weekend (two 8-hour shifts), one evening shift per week (4 hours), and two holiday shifts per year (one major and one minor).
Q: How are residents evaluated?
A: Residents are evaluated through a combination of PharmAcademic and direct preceptor feedback. Many rotations incorporate regular check-ins, such as “Feedback Fridays,” to provide ongoing, week-by-week insight into resident progress, highlighting both strengths and areas for improvement. In addition, residents receive formal formative evaluations within PharmAcademic throughout each learning experience.
Q: What technologies are used in central pharmacy
A: Central pharmacy utilizes a variety of technologies to support efficient and safe medication distribution:
- XR2: An automated medication dispensing system/robot that stores and dispenses medications, helping streamline workflow and reduce dispensing errors.
- MedEx TraySafe: An automated, image-based, cloud-connected system used to manage, replenish, and track hospital code carts (crash carts), ensuring accuracy and readiness for emergencies.
- BD Pyxis™ PharmacyKeeper™ Verification: A cloud-based IV workflow management system that enhances pharmacy safety and efficiency through barcode scanning, photo documentation, and optional gravimetric (weight-based) verification of compounded sterile preparations.
- Carousel: An automated storage and retrieval system that improves inventory management and allows for faster, more efficient medication picking.
