Residents in the following affiliated programs receive their stipends and benefits according to the schedule of their sponsoring institutions: Anesthesia and Podiatry.

Stipends

Referenced stipend is per annum, payable bi-weekly. The Hospital shall deduct appropriate mandatory items, such as applicable Federal and State withholding taxes and FICA (Social Security).

Personal, Professional and Medical Leaves of Absence

Vacation

Residents are entitled to up to four weeks vacation/educational leave per year, to be scheduled by the program director to ensure adequate coverage of educational and clinical responsibilities.

Dental residents are entitled to up to two weeks vacation and one week continuing education leave per year, to be scheduled by the program director to ensure adequate coverage of educational and clinical responsibilities.

Sick Leave

Residents are entitled to a paid sick leave of up to 12 days per year for excused absences due to illness.

Maternity Leave

Residents are eligible for six weeks of unpaid maternity leave beginning on the day of hospitalization.

Family and Medical Leave

Residents are eligible for up to a maximum of 12 weeks in a 12-month period under federal law or up to 16 weeks in a 2-year period under Connecticut law for:

The birth or adoption of a child

The serious illness of a child, spouse or parent of the resident, or parent of a spouse

The serious illness of the resident

Professional Liability Insurance

Danbury Hospital provides the resident with professional liability insurance coverage while the resident is acting within the scope of his/her assigned program activities, consistent with the coverage provided to other medical practitioners. Coverage includes legal defense and protection against awards from claims reported or filed during participation or filed after completion of the program for acts that occurred during the residency program.

Additional Benefits for Residents

Health and Dental Insurance

There are three medical plans as well as a dental plan from which the resident may choose. The resident pays a portion of the cost of medical insurance.

Life Insurance

The resident is covered with life insurance, as well as accidental death and dismemberment insurance, in an amount equal to one and one-half times the resident’s annual salary.

Long-term Disability Insurance

Long-term disability insurance is also offered as income protection for illnesses and injury of prolonged duration.

Travel Accident Insurance

The resident is covered in the amount of $50,000 for travel accidents while on hospital or program business, excluding travel to and from home.

Meal Allowance/Sleeping Quarters

The resident is provided with a meal allowance and sleeping quarters while on overnight call in the Hospital.

Uniform Service

Danbury Hospital provides lab coats and scrubs to residents as needed.

Confidential Support Services

The Hospital will facilitate the resident’s access to appropriate and confidential counseling, medical and psychological support services.
