PGY1- Pharmacy Residency Curriculum

Learning Experiences

The Nuvance Health – Norwalk Hospital PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency Program is a 12-month (July – June) post-graduate training program. The program consists of core block, elective, and longitudinal learning experiences. This program structure may be subject to change to customize the program to meet individual interests, goals, and needs of the resident as determined by the Residency Advisory Committee (RAC).

Required Core Block Learning Experiences:

  • Orientation (6 weeks)
  • Hospital / Pharmacy Orientation (6 weeks)
  • General Medicine (6 weeks)
  • Critical Care (6 weeks)
  • Emergency Medicine (6 weeks)
  • Hematology/Oncology (6 weeks)
  • USP 797/800 Sterile Processing  (4 weeks)
  • Leadership (2 weeks)

Elective Learning Experiences – 2 Elective Experiences during residency year consisting of (but not limited to):

  • Pharmacy Informatics (6 weeks)
  • Medication Safety (6 weeks)
  • Academic Leadership (6 weeks)
  • Ambulatory Care (6 weeks)

Required Longitudinal Learning Experiences:

  • Pharmacy Practice Management (20 weeks)
  • Antimicrobial Stewardship (20 weeks)
  • Longitudinal Research Project (spread across residency year)
  • Staffing (spread across residency year)
  • Teaching and Learning(spread across residency year)

Additional Residency Teaching Experiences:

  • University of Connecticut Teaching and Learning Certificate Program
  • ASHP Certificate of choice
  • Precept IPPE and APPE students on rotation
