Payam Shakouri, MD,
Program Director, Nuvance Health Nephrology Fellowship at Vassar Brothers Medical Center

Dr. Shakouri was born in Iran and grew up in Tehran and London, England. He completed his undergraduate studies in England at Amersham College in Buckinghamshire. He started his medical education England and later transferred to St. George’s University. He completed his internship in internal medicine residency at Saint Michael Medical Center of Seton Hall University in Newark New Jersey. He then completed a fellowship in nephrology at Icahn school of medicine at Mount Sinai at Elmhurst Hospital Center. He was involved with research in critical care medicine and nephrology in fellowship under his mentor Dr George Coritsidis and continued his work after graduation.

In recent years Dr Shakouri has been involved in promoting cutting edge treatments in gout and new therapies that could potentially slow down the progression of chronic kidney disease. Educating patients and communities about diabetes and chronic kidney disease has been a priority for him and his team at Advanced Kidney Care of Hudson Valley.
